David Lai Blog bio picture

hi

it's pretty awkward when you meet people the first time, right?

when we're surrounded by privatization of society, i hope that this blog will do the opposite with who i am.

i am a brother

i am a son

i am a friend

i am a photographer

i am someone who simply wants to share. be it simply my photography, to my life, to my soul.

i hope to see you on the day you choose to say "I DO" staring into the eyes of someone you're committing to love forever. someone you've shared you're darkest days, and greatest moments with. someone who has made you cry the hardest and laugh the loudest.

your wedding day will be the worst day of your marriage... because everyday after, you'll grow closer, learning to love each other more and more.

love is not merely a feeling, but an action, that of the will.

It’s your choice

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te6qG4yn-Ps

I was just reflecting today while i was talking with my friend ryan on gchat. and this whole thing popped into my head again. It’s about the Matrix and our choice of taking the blue pill or the red pill.. I must say, we’re all in that seat and it’s a choice we are to make. however, not often do we realize we’re even in that seat cause we’re so blinded to even ask question the infrastructure of our thinking and why we think the way we think. It’s not about blue or red..

The question is asking whether reality/truth, is worth pursuing.

The blue pill will leave us as we are, complacent amongst things we believe we know. We are comfortable, we do not need truth to live… orĀ  we believe what we know and believe is truth (this isn’t a typo).

The red pill is an unknown. We are told that it can help us to find the truth. However, we don’t know what the truth is. We don’t know if the pill itself well help us find it.. this red pill represents the doubt, the risk, and the questioning of what we believe. In order to answer your question on truth, you risk your current like and world to experience a new reality that you have never experienced.

I’ve seen the movie maybe.. twice, but I never realized that I was clearly in that seat when i first saw the movie.

What Morpheus says at 2:38 definitely shows us how we’re a product of media’s representation of life… we’re born into this prison without even knowing it. We watched television growing up, and have been told how to react to many situations without ever once questioning it.

Which pill are you going to take after reading this? Know that the truth we seek and come to know by taking the red pill may not be what we want to hear or know. Truth may be exactly the opposite to how you think and function currently, but that’s a hardship that we have to deal with in accepting Truth. It’s not easy, but if you seek and question your current reality, and find that it wasn’t reality at all, be happy that you can even see “outside the matrix.” Truth will require you to breakdown and leave what you’ve known in the past. However, many will fall and use comfort as a crutch, leaving Truth behind, only wanting to return to comfort. But ask yourself, what’s more important for you, Truth or comfort? There is comfort in Truth, but that only comes afterward.

Take the Blue Pill, or the Red Pill?

Jacki - I think your post resonates so much with my fighting for social justice. On the one hand, you see the injustices and unequal forces of power - the crap it does to people. But you struggle with knowing what to do with this knowledge - how do you turn your knowledge into action. On the other hand, sometimes, you get so down on this stuff, you wish you didn't know about it, go on and live a happy life without ever seeing the tragedy of oppression. For me, it's balancing the red pill and blue pill...creating a purple pill. Intersectionality and third space at its best. I struggle with breaking down these binaries and creating my own choice - the choice of in between. I'd like to know your thoughts on this. What do you think about creating a third choice?March 1, 2010 - 7:56 pm

dan - regarding red/blue pill, i think david is talking about absolute truth. when it comes to absolute truth it can only be either/or not both/and. when it comes to the sciences and humanities however there is definitely a purple pill, in fact i would venture to say there's never been any red or blue pill, that all along in fact, there's only ever been a singular purple pill. for example 'social justice'- this science becomes obsolete and impotent if it does not address all spheres of life. but we all know that it does. your dilemma is one that stems from the essence and lie of modernity which is that the sciences and humanities have no business in convergence. when in fact it is in their very nature to hybridize. however one has to ask themselves what it means to 'fight for social justice'...why do you do this. why is it a worthwhile endeavor. why is it good? what does good mean? where does this idea of good come from? it's my observation that not many young people do the leg work to ask the right questions or figure out exactly what it is they believe. fighting for social justice is a good cause but one does not do the struggle "justice" if the cause is simply another pill. we can call these human constructs "secondary pills"...but what david is talking about are the primary pills. that indeed there may be an ultimate red pill and an ultimate blue pill and depending on which one we take at the outset, that will influence and determine all the rest of our choices (or pills we take) for the rest of our lives. there can be no 'intersectionality' between truth and lie. if there could be, truth's integrity would be compromised, and truth would cease to exist and all that would remain are lies and depravities. its quite easy. if one chooses the truth pill then all successive pills are singular- purple. if one chooses to remain in a lie, then all successive pills are wide and divergent in color; there will never be wholeness, harmony or peace until we figure out that truth is what we want and need- what keeps people from the obvious choice? a false sense of freedom. personal sovereignty and a value in free-will that only benefits the self ego. truth demands sacrifice. it demands our unwavering allegiance. it demands our life. not many are willing to do these things. what has happened is that we've been force fed the lie pill via media as david is trying to say here, so we've been programmed to rationalize all our thoughts and ideals in a way that only benefits ourselves which results in an overarching ethos of laziness, inaction and cynicism in the younger generations and what has happened is we've stopped asking the right questions and in our lust for freedom we've in fact enslaved ourselves to the very idea. perhaps when you first started reading my comment you initially shuddered at the thought of an "absolute" truth. you were thinking how can truth and freedom coexist if all truth is, is a language game of power? my answer is that this truth that claims to be absolute is in fact not a truth that would regulate one to slave like obedience but one that sets a soul free to see things as they actually are and to interact with one's world in wholeness and joy. but again. its easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than for modern person to understand this truth.March 11, 2010 - 3:51 pm
